Look, if you told me a month ago that Tampa Bay would be starting an undrafted rookie quarterback in Jalon Daniels while dealing with a total nightmare at kicker, I would have told you to step away from the mic. But here we are heading into Thursday Night Football with a winless 0-4 Buccaneers team taking on Dak Prescott and a 2-2 Dallas Cowboys squad. Can Tampa Bay somehow salvage their season with Baker Mayfield ruled out and Antoine Winfield Jr. sidelined? My gut says no chance, especially with Jerry Jones’ crew coming off a wild 34-30 victory over Houston.

I’m not going to sugarcoat this. Tampa Bay is in complete quicksand right now, sitting at 0-4 after dropping tight games like that 17-14 heartbreaker to Green Bay and a 23-16 loss to Minnesota. They’re averaging just 240 total yards per game and coughing up two turnovers a night.

What scares me even more about the Bucs is the sheer pile of bad news hitting them all at once. Baker Mayfield is out, which forces rookie Jalon Daniels into the fire against a Dallas defense that just added CB Joey Porter Jr. to their secondary. On top of that, kicker Chase McLaughlin is nursing hip and groin issues with no backup on the practice squad, and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is sidelined. Throw in defensive back Sean Murphy-Bunting packing his bags for Pittsburgh, and Tampa’s pass defense, which already struggled in a 33-27 loss at Cincinnati, looks completely vulnerable.

So where does that leave Brian Schottenheimer’s squad? Dallas comes in at 2-2 after surviving a wild 34-30 shootout against the Houston Texans, and while their defense gave up 34 to Baltimore the week prior, their offense is humming. Dak Prescott is directing an attack averaging around 344 yards a game with a microscopic 0.4 turnovers per contest. What I really love is how aggressive Jerry Jones has been, bringing in offensive tackle Broderick Jones and pulling off a deal for Joey Porter Jr., who already logged 25 snaps in his debut.

Sure, Dallas isn’t flawless, as evidenced by that 28-20 loss to the Giants on the road where their run defense couldn’t get off the field. But averaging over 250 passing yards per game gives them a massive advantage against a depleted Tampa Bay secondary.

Dallas squeaked out a 26-24 win over Tampa Bay in their last meeting late in 2024, and they blew them out 31-14 in the playoffs the year before. Honestly, I don’t care much about Tampa’s 19-3 win way back in 2022 because these two teams are in totally different places now. With Tampa Bay breaking in a rookie quarterback and Dallas possessing a massive edge on offense, historical trends take a back seat to current reality.

Baker Mayfield being sidelined completely changes the complexion of Tampa Bay’s offense, and losing Antoine Winfield Jr. strips their defense of its primary playmaker. For Dallas, playing without starting offensive lineman Tyler Smith on I.L. hurts, but they have enough depth to manage.

Betting Analysis & Tips

Market Selection Odds
Moneyline Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4.15
Moneyline Dallas Cowboys 1.19
Total Over/Under 47.5

I see massive value in taking Dallas to cover. Oddsmakers have Dallas heavily favored at 1.19, and our projection of a 28-16 Cowboys victory shows why Tampa Bay’s offensive limitations with a rookie backup make it tough for them to keep pace. I am also looking at the under on that 47.5 total line because I expect Tampa Bay to struggle to find the end zone.

Final Prediction

I’m taking the Dallas Cowboys to win comfortably and cover the spread. Sure, road games can occasionally get weird and Dallas’s rush defense makes me slightly nervous, but Tampa Bay simply has too many injuries to compete right now. Give me Dallas laying the points all day.

Predicted Score Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 – 28 Dallas Cowboys
