Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons – NFL Prediction
Match Preview
Michael Penix Jr. suffering a rib injury and backup Tua Tagovailoa throwing a game-ending interception in overtime against Baltimore is about as chaotic as it gets for Atlanta. Now the 2-3 Falcons have to dust themselves off and head straight into a matchup with a Chicago squad that has won three of its last five. Can Atlanta fix their quarterback situation on short notice against a physical team? I have my doubts.

What I like about Chicago is their ground attack, churning out around 173 rushing yards per game and putting up massive numbers when everything clicks. They hung 59 points on Carolina earlier this season and rolled past Philadelphia 27-7.
That said, consistency is still an issue, and that 31-7 beatdown they took from Green Bay last time out was plain ugly. Caleb Williams dealing with a hamstring injury and Kyle Monangai battling a toe issue certainly doesn’t help matters for an offense averaging two turnovers a game. Still, they beat the Jets 23-12 and held the Eagles to just a touchdown, showing their ceiling is pretty high when they protect the football. If Chicago avoids turning it over, their average of nearly 400 total yards will wear down Atlanta quickly.

So where does that leave Atlanta after dropping to 2-3 in that 30-23 overtime loss to Baltimore? Head coach Kevin Stefanski admitted Penix Jr. couldn’t re-enter because he could not get comfortable enough to play on the sideline, leaving Tua Tagovailoa to throw a game-ending interception. That is brutal because the playmakers actually produced, as Drake London put up 118 receiving yards and Bijan Robinson ripped off a 37-yard run to set up a drive inside the 5-yard line. But until the quarterback position stabilizes, those explosive plays feel like empty calories.
Look at the game logs and you see wild swings. They smashed New Orleans 45-24 and Green Bay 35-14, but also got crushed 34-3 by Carolina. I’m not buying them as a reliable road pick right now.
Head-to-Head Record

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023-12-31 | Regular Season | Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons | 37-17 | Chicago Bears |
| 2022-11-20 | Regular Season | Atlanta Falcons vs Chicago Bears | 27-24 | Atlanta Falcons |
| Team | Wins |
|---|---|
| Chicago Bears | 1 |

| Atlanta Falcons | 1 |
These two split their last two meetings, with Chicago taking a 37-17 victory in late 2023 after Atlanta won a 27-24 nail-biter back in 2022. Past head-to-head results do not mean much here given Atlanta’s fresh injury turmoil at quarterback, but Chicago proved in that 2023 matchup they can completely blow this team out when they control the line of scrimmage.

Penix Jr.’s rib status is the biggest storyline on the board, while offensive line starter Jake Matthews is listed as questionable for Atlanta. Chicago has their own major concern with quarterback Caleb Williams nursing a hamstring injury.
Betting Analysis & Tips
| Market | Selection | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Chicago Bears | 1.48 |
| Moneyline | Atlanta Falcons | 2.45 |
Our analysis leans heavily toward Chicago with a 75.6% win probability, but a 7.5-point spread feels a bit rich given Caleb Williams’ hamstring and Chicago’s tendency to give up turnovers. Atlanta has enough big-play ability with London and Robinson to hang around within a touchdown. I see value in grabbing Atlanta to cover the +7.5 spread even if Chicago wins the game straight up.
Final Prediction
I’m taking Chicago to win outright at home, projected around 26-22. My gut says Atlanta keeps this close enough to cover, though Penix’s health makes me a little nervous about trusting their offense for four quarters. Chicago wins, but Atlanta keeps it respectable.
