Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers – NFL Prediction
Match Preview
Are we sure we have the right favorite in this one? Las Vegas is riding high after dismantling Miami 27-13 behind a monster 147-yard performance from rookie Ashton Jeanty, while Los Angeles looked flat out lost in a 26-14 beatdown by Arizona. The Chargers are stumbling into this game losing four of their last five overall, and they are nursing a bunch of critical injuries. I know what the oddsmakers say, but my gut tells me this AFC West clash is going to be way tighter than the market thinks.

What I love about this Raiders group right now is the defensive intensity. Defensive coordinator Rob Leonard dialed up all kinds of creative pressures against Miami, and guys like Maxx Crosby, Kwity Paye, Nakobe Dean, and Folorunso Fatukasi basically lived in the backfield. Holding a team to 74 rushing yards and a 2-for-10 mark on third downs is pure dominance.
Offensively, they hung 27 points on the Dolphins without tight end Brock Bowers, which makes Ashton Jeanty’s 29-touch masterpiece even more impressive. Jeanty carried the workload with two receiving touchdowns, giving Kirk Cousins a dependable safety valve in this offense. Sure, they dropped an 18-12 decision to San Francisco in the preseason, but they also beat Houston 22-20 and capped last season with a 14-12 win over Kansas City. They average around 258 total yards a game, which is not explosive, but they protect the football and manage game flow well. If Cousins stays clean, Las Vegas can keep grinding out wins.

So where does that leave Los Angeles after dropping their opener 26-14 to Arizona? I am legitimately concerned about this offense, especially with wideout Ladd McConkey questionable after leaving Week 1 in the third quarter. McConkey was their entire passing game before going down, posting five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. Throw in new signing Cole Strange getting pushed right into the starting lineup and running back Keaton Mitchell managing just nine yards on four carries, and this unit looks completely out of sync. Plus, they got blown out 41-17 by the 49ers just a few weeks ago.
The defense is not giving me much confidence either. After defensive back Elijah Molden left Week 1 with an injury, rookie safety Genesis Smith had to take over big snaps. LA averages roughly 272 yards of total offense, but their secondary showed massive holes against Arizona that will not magically disappear overnight.

The Chargers have owned this series recently, taking four of the last five meetings including a 31-14 win in November and a 20-9 defensive grind last September. But do past results really matter when LA is slumping so hard? Remember, Las Vegas showed they can blow this rivalry open too, hanging 63 points on them back in late 2023. Given Los Angeles’ recent 20% win rate over their last five games compared to the Raiders winning three of five, I do not think past head-to-head history carries as much weight here.

Keep a very close eye on Ladd McConkey and Elijah Molden for the Chargers, because losing your top playmaker and a starting defensive back leaves LA severely thin on both sides of the ball. On the other side, Las Vegas hopes Brock Bowers can get back on the field after missing Week 1.
Betting Analysis & Tips
| Market | Selection | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Las Vegas Raiders | 3.15 |
| Moneyline | Los Angeles Chargers | 1.31 |
| Total | Over/Under | 43.5 |
The oddsmakers at Wolfbet have Los Angeles as heavy 1.31 favorites with a total line set at 43.5, but I see huge value on Las Vegas at 3.15. The folks at SI.com are pounding the over 43.5 because of LA’s defensive vulnerabilities, but with our projected total sitting down at 34, I actually expect a much lower-scoring struggle. I am taking the Raiders moneyline because 3.15 is far too generous for a team coming off a convincing 14-point win against a team missing key starters.
Final Prediction
I am taking Las Vegas to pull off the outright upset on the road. LA’s injury list makes me a bit nervous for their depth, while Ashton Jeanty and that aggressive Raiders front seven are simply playing better football right now. Give me the Raiders to shock the Chargers in a tight, physical battle.
