Match Preview

Two 0-4 teams walking into Week 5 desperate for a win is about as grimy as NFL football gets. Houston made NFL history by becoming the first team ever to start 0-4 without throwing a single interception, but giving up late fourth-quarter leads in three of those games is keeping them in the cellar. Can Robert Saleh finally secure his first win as Titans head coach, or will C.J. Stroud and the Texans snap their slide on the road?

What bugs me about Houston is that C.J. Stroud hasn’t turned the ball over once, yet they still sit at 0-4. Dropping a 34-30 shootout to Dallas after tight losses to Indianapolis and Buffalo shows this offense can push the ball with around 230 passing yards per game, but they simply cannot close out wins.

Look at the trench play if you want to know why they are struggling late. Despite adding free agents OT Braden Smith and OG Wyatt Teller alongside 2026 first-round pick Keylan Rutledge, the ground game is non-existent. Houston ranks 30th in rushing at under 85 yards a game, and running backs are getting hit at or before the line of scrimmage on over 52% of carries. That leaves David Montgomery stuck at 2.8 yards per carry and Woody Marks at 3.0, while Stroud has been sacked 10 times on 43 pressures.

Tennessee’s offense is painful to watch right now, plain and simple. Head coach Robert Saleh is still searching for his first win with the franchise after a 24-18 loss to Baltimore dropped them to 0-4 for the second straight year. Tony Pollard is working hard as the workhorse back with 54 carries for 221 yards and a touchdown, but averaging around 260 total yards per game as a team will not get it done. If they want to stay competitive, they need rookie receiver Carnell Tate to build on his breakout Week 4 performance against the Ravens.

Can this defense hold up long enough for the offense to find a rhythm? They kept things tight in a 12-7 loss to the Giants and a 24-20 loss to Philadelphia, but when the offense stalls, the defense eventually breaks under the pressure.

Houston has taken four of the last five meetings between these divisional rivals, including a 26-0 blowout and a 16-13 win in late 2025. That recent head-to-head edge is real, but with both squads sitting at 0-4, throw out the history books. This matchup comes down to which front seven controls the line of scrimmage and who avoids making the costly fourth-quarter mistake.

Betting Analysis & Tips

Market Selection Odds
Moneyline Houston Texans 1.23
Moneyline Tennessee Titans 3.75
Total Over/Under 37.5

The bookmakers have Houston set as a heavy 1.23 favorite, and our analysis projects a 24-9 road victory for the Texans. I am looking closely at the total line set at 37.5, especially with si.com calling for the over at 39.5 based on Houston giving up at least 19 points in every game. My gut says back the under here because Tennessee’s offensive drives stall far too often to drive up the score.

Final Prediction

I’m taking the Houston Texans to finally break into the win column on the road. Their habit of blowing fourth-quarter leads makes me a bit nervous, but Tennessee simply does not have the offensive firepower to exploit it. Give me Houston to pull away late for a 24-9 win.
