Nick Kyrgios Provisionally Suspended From Tennis After Positive Cocaine Test
Nick Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, has been provisionally suspended from professional tennis by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine.
The sample was collected during the Mallorca Championships on June 22, and later confirmed by a WADA-accredited laboratory to contain benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. The suspension has been in effect since August 4, and the 31-year-old Australian has not appealed the decision.
Kyrgios Breaks the News Himself
Rather than waiting for an official statement, Kyrgios shared the news directly with fans on Instagram:
„I recently failed a drug test in Mallorca after testing positive for cocaine. I made a huge mistake and I take full responsibility for it.”
He went on to reflect on the toll recent years have taken on him, both physically and mentally, citing ongoing injuries and the difficulty of coming to terms with the twilight of his career.
What the Suspension Means
While the provisional suspension remains in place, Kyrgios is barred from playing, coaching, or attending any events organized or sanctioned by the ATP, WTA, the Grand Slams, or any national tennis association.
Once ranked as high as world No. 13, Kyrgios has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and has played only a handful of matches in 2026.
