NHL Heritage Classic prediction: Jets vs Canadiens
Our Heritage Classic prediction starts with a caveat: the Jets and Canadiens meet outdoors in Winnipeg on Sunday 25 October, and no win probabilities were available when we wrote this. What we have is form and schedule. Both clubs are 4-3 in wins and regulation losses, Winnipeg have lost their last two games, and Montreal play at Chicago on Friday night before travelling west. Puck drop is 6 p.m. CDT, which is midnight in Poland on Monday.

Jets vs Canadiens: form and what to watch
Winnipeg are 4-3 in wins and regulation losses and sit 10th in the Western Conference. They lost 2-1 at St. Louis on Tuesday night and 3-2 at Dallas on Thursday night, so both recent defeats were by one goal. Montreal are also 4-3 and 12th in the East. They had no game between Tuesday and Thursday, then visit Chicago on Friday night.
World in Sport counted 34 goals conceded by Montreal in nine games against 26 for Winnipeg, which suggests the Canadiens’ defence has been the weaker of the two so far. Against St. Louis, the same source says the Jets created chances but did not take enough of them. That is the central question for bettors: can the Jets turn their chances into goals against a team that has been conceding more.
The schedule also matters. Winnipeg last played on Thursday night and have two full days off. Montreal play in Chicago on Friday night and then have one day to travel to Winnipeg. Rest is not decisive on its own, but it favours the home side. Winnipeg also lost the last Heritage Classic they hosted, 3-0 to Edmonton in 2016.
Heritage Classic prediction: betting angles
We have no probability or price for this game, so we are not giving a pick. Here is what to check before you stake anything.
- Starting goaltenders: they are confirmed on game day, and in a close game they matter more than any price.
- Weather and ice: outdoor conditions can change the pace. There is no solid sample to say whether that favours the under, so do not assume it.
- Montreal’s result in Chicago on Friday night: a heavy game or an injury the day before can change the line.
- Line movement: if the price shifts a lot before puck drop, find out why.
There is no draw in the NHL moneyline: a tied game goes to overtime and then a shootout. The main markets are the moneyline (who wins, including overtime), the puck line (a goal handicap) and the total goals.

NHL standings snapshot
The win-loss counts in our data leave out overtime losses, so this is not a points table. Edmonton lead the West at 8-1, ahead of Vegas (8-4) and Seattle (7-3). In the East, Carolina and Boston are both 8-2, with Tampa Bay at 7-2.
Among the Canadian clubs, Edmonton are first in the West, Ottawa fifth in the East at 7-4 and Toronto sixth at 6-4. Winnipeg are 10th in the West at 4-3, Montreal 12th in the East at 4-3, Calgary 14th in the West at 3-6, and Vancouver last in the West at 2-9.
Elsewhere this week: Boston beat Nashville 6-0, Pittsburgh beat Florida 4-0, Tampa Bay won 6-2 at Vegas, and St. Louis beat Vegas 6-2.
How to read these numbers
A win probability tells you how often a result should happen over many games, not what will happen in one. To turn a bookmaker’s price into a probability, divide 1 by the price: odds of 2.00 equal 50%. The prices on a game always add up to more than 100%, and the difference is the bookmaker’s margin.
A short price is not an opportunity by itself. Odds of 1.20 imply more than 83% and pay little for the risk.
What’s next
We review the Heritage Classic on Monday 26 October. Montreal and Winnipeg meet again on Tuesday 3 November, according to ESPN’s schedule, and the NHL Global Series games in Helsinki are on 12 and 14 November.
